Vision Is a Gift
The quality of our vision impacts our daily lives, from basic skills like balance and hand-eye coordination to complex tasks like classroom learning or working with digital screens.
Vision is a gift that many of us benefit from every day. But many people, locally and globally, don’t receive the basic vision care they need to protect their sight.
At SALT + LIGHT, vision care is a calling, and we’re dedicated to answering that call. We strive to give back in meaningful ways and make a difference in the lives of the patients we see and the people we serve worldwide.
Vision Care Can Make a Difference
According to the World Health Organization, over 2.2 billion people are living with vision impairment or blindness—yet more than 1 billion cases could be prevented or improved with appropriate vision care.
The main drivers of vision impairment are commonly overlooked conditions, such as dry eye and conjunctivitis (pink eye), rising rates of myopia (nearsightedness), and diabetic retinopathy.
Giving Back to Our Community
Eye exams are crucial for supporting visual health and overall health. Yet, fewer than 15% of preschool kids receive a professional eye exam. School vision screenings aren’t a substitute, as the tests only evaluate sight—not eye health. And when screenings identify eye problems, 61% of those kids never visit an eye doctor.
That’s why we’re proud to partner with Essilor Labs to provide free eye exams and a free pair of glasses for kids in foster care and below the poverty line. No child should be overlooked, as vision can play a vital role in their lifelong health and success.
How Our Patients Help Us Give Back
With every pair of glasses our patients purchase, we donate a pair of glasses. So when you find something to love from our frames and lenses collection, you’re sharing the gift of vision with someone in need.
SALT + LIGHT also carries styles from Eyes of Faith, an eyewear brand that has delivered over 120,000 pairs of glasses, reading glasses, and sunglasses to people in need around the world. We’re proud to carry eyewear with a story to tell and a purpose to change lives.
Serving Our Global Community
Dr. Monte volunteers with Citizen Church on missions dedicated to the physical and spiritual renewal of communities outside the US, including Kenya, Thailand, Haiti, Mexico, and Ecuador.
In many of the places Dr. Monte volunteers, she’s the first eye doctor to serve the area. She provides free eye exams and eyeglasses. Eye care can make a difference in education and job opportunities, especially for young girls and women.
Dr. Monte gathered 500 pairs of donated glasses for her Kenya mission—because something as simple as access to eyewear can change lives.
